Sommerfeld Saves the Day

Sommerfeld Saves the Day Every organiser of an outdoor event knows the feeling: From a week out, you watch the weather forecast avidly - and for the organisers of the Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival the worst case scenario developed. Despite ground baking wall-to-wall sunshine in the two weeks leading up to the event, with two days to go the warnings were for heavy thunderstorms on the weekend of the event. Fortunately, Sommerfeld Flexboard came to the rescue. “We made a call to Sommerfeld and within half a day they had delivered a hundred metres of EuroMats to protect dry walkways and breakout areas for the bands and concessions. Despite a deluge throughout Saturday (which didn't stop the two-day festival getting record crowds) the EuroMats did their job perfectly and when they were lifted on Sunday night the grass was virtually pristine. The only lesson we learned, commented John Marsh, one of the event organisers is not leave it so late next year. In fact we have already placed an order for EuroMats for next year’s event on 11th and 12th July 2015. While Sommerfeld offers an installation service it was particularly fitting that the festival called on the help of local ATC Cadets to help position the temporary pathways supplied by Telford-based Sommerfeld Flexboard – the company made its name by supplying temporary runways and roads during the Second World War.
